We headed into Yellowstone park via the west entrance.
Yellowstone is so beautiful, you just drive along the roads and you can see all kinds of animals that we don't have in New Zealand, Bison, Moose, elk deer etc.
the land scape varies rapidly throughout Yellowstone that at one stage we found our selfs 9000 feet above sea level with snow on the side of the road.
most of the time you can just pull over when you see awhole lot o cars on the side of the road and you are garenteed to see something ... even if its just someone taking a piss. lol.
it was just so nice to see all the animals in their natural environment just so scenic seeing herds of animals.
you could easily spend 3 of 4 days looking around, you can camp in there to which would be cool.
we also saw old faithful the big geyser.
after Yellowstone we headed as far east as we could before we got tiered and ended up in Sheridan, Wyoming at the most dingiest motel, the kind you see on the movies, the kind margin (matt's mum) told us to stay away from. something just didn't smell right about that room. i ended up sleeping my sleeping bag on top of the bed with a towel warped around the pillow

Cross Country Roadie - Day 2

27-05-07

Day 2
up early although we had been up all night with the dogs sleeping in the room with us.
we got on the road at about 8am. the main aim of today was just to get as close to west Yellowstone as possible.
so we traveled from Calvin, Nevada up the 93 into Idaho past the twin falls and the Idaho falls up to a town just outside Yellowstone in Montana.
we traveled about 451 miles (721km).
not a very exciting day and the only radio chanel we can get all seem to be country.

We departed Monterey Bay 9.00am, it was memorial Day so we hit quite a bit of bad traffic.
We got stuck in one traffic jam for 4 miles hitting an all time high speed of 5 miles an hour.
we have our co-pilots,
Weatherbee: A Morbidly obese Golden retriever, he weighs about 45-50kg but is so placed and gentle you just want to hug him.
Sunny: a hyperactive Labrador that has the strength of an ox and takes you for a walk.
they are both so quite though you would hardly even tell that they are with us, we stop every 2 hours and let them out for a toilet brake, water and maybe a treat before we lead them back into the suburban being careful to always let Weatherbee in first so he can get there bed into the right position via humping it, lol.
Our trip on today took us from Monterey , San Jose, Sacramento (where somehow we got lost as the I-80 east turned into the business 80?? still have no idea what happened there but god had our backs and looped us right back onto the I80 east... that is of coarse after tempers had risen.) Tahoe, reno.. smooth sailing from there just a straight road with nothingnesses! mill city for the worst subway ever, mill city has a population of 28... need we say more. and then at 10:30 we arrived at Carlin (just before Elko)on super "E" because we were surrounded by nothingness there were no gas stations between mill city and Carlin thats about 70 miles of trying to conserve gas and pray hard out that we would make it.
